Navigation and Survey Systems

VNII Signal JSC designs navigation and survey systems for various special-purpose wheeled and tracked vehicles.

Odometer–based operation principle, which is used in all the systems, ensures autonomous dead reckoning. At the same time all the systems are integrated with GLONASS / NAVSTAR satellite navigation systems to avoid accumulating bias errors of the odometer channel and random errors of the satellite one.

Navigation systems, in which autonomous mode is provided by the integration of strapdown inertial navigation systems with odometers (mechanical and Doppler velocity sensors), are under development now.

The navigation systems of VNII Signal design comprise grid azimuth and tilt gyro-sensors and can be used, if necessary, as spatial reference systems.

Precise navigation systems provide not only navigation but also survey missions.

The navigation systems (NS) of VNII Signal design can be divided into the following groups:

  • NS for artillery fire control systems,
  • NS for theatre-of-war weapons,
  • NS for armored vehicles,
  • NS for man-portable air-defense systems,
  • NS for air-defense systems,
  • NS for chemical reconnaissance vehicles,
  • NS for ICBM support facilities,
  • NS for SPG.

More than 20 models of navigation systems have been put into service and phased into large-scale production.

Export versions of navigation systems have been designed and are delivered to foreign customers.
